India was known as an agriculture oriented land since ancient times, but since few decades farmers are feeling that farming has become a non-profitable business. As a result, thousands of farmers are leaving agriculture, their own home and becoming migratory worker and moving to urban India to generate a better earning for their livelihood. Their life has become uncertain and is being controlled by larger market economy, on which they have no control over their own earnings. Whereas their village life had unpredictable natural conditions but they would have a sustainable and certain life. The main components of living that is Food, Clothing, Shelter and basic entertainment were there in their village life. Though they have minimum medical and educational facilities, they have the certainty of living a peaceful life.
Now, due to the open market economy, the growth of our country primarily depends on the continuous flow of “Profit”. This continuous pressure to generate more and more “Profit” has destroyed the basic structure of agriculture. People have destroyed the ecological balances of Soil, Water, Air, Animals, Insects, Microbes and running behind to extract more and more “Profit” out of it.
The meaning of “Sustainable Agricultural Practice” is to supply food to all the members of a specific Bio diversity zone, also to assure the food supply for the future generations to come. That means we need to grow our food in a way that all the main elements of agricultural resources like- Soil, Water, Air and all the components of Eco-system will be in proper health and will continuously supply food for future.
The main challenge for Sustainable Agricultural Practice is to grow food with a proper planning, recycle the ecological elements and revive the elements those are already damaged, by maintaining the Ecological balances of environment.
At the same time people should think about “Profit” not as an instant measure, but as a long term investment for the future generations and the people should understand the alternate meaning of “Profit”.
